Hey is that a ScreenPlay Director?

There has been much talk about the “digital home” for many years. It seems at every CES someone is always pitching wares that can turn your regular home into a digital one. What does that really mean? What the heck is a digital home? Who knows. But one thing is for certain – Iomega’s new ScreenPlay Director Media Player is just might be able to answer that question.

Everyone’s regular home is cluttered with digital junk: CDs, DVDs, Blue Ray Discs, iPods and the list goes on and on. And it never fails as soon as you want to watch THAT particular movie you can never find it. It’s not in the case or it’s been switched with Sleepless in Seattle and you have already seen that 50 times.

With ScreenPlay Director and its lite counterpart – TVLink Director you now have the ability to store all of your digital stuff on one handy gadget AND you can view, stream, watch and listen to all of your favorite Elvis music (happy birthday today Elvis), watch Raiders of the Lost Arc at the click of a button and even rent movies through a new partnership with Roxio’s CinemaNow service. CinemaNow has thousands of titles to browse and download. They even have the recently released Star Trek :-). Downloading took just a few minutes to load up on the ScreenPlay Director on a standard DSL Internet connection.

ScreenPlay Director comes loaded with 1 TB of storage space making that the only difference between it and TVLink Director. (with TV Link you must plug in an external storage device). There are 3 USB ports on the device so plugging in to retrieve content was a snap.

We added on the optional wireless adapter and could then connect to the Internet to access tons of pre-programmed content sources such as YouTube, Flickr, and ShoutCast. Of course, you can also set up the device with your favorite RSS feed and podcast. Lastly, Iomega has a cool online portal to help locate content for ScreenPlay – http://www.iomega.com/onlinemedia/.
